Russian pre-revolutionary glamour maintains the rage, writes Nicole Bittar.
Political overtones clouded the publication of Boris Pasternak's eponymous novel. But the cinematic adaptation is evocative in the extreme. Channel the unforgettable Julie Christie as Lara in all her pre-war finery or the exquisite Geraldine Chaplin as the devoted Tonya, briefly reunited with her protagonist at the station, and this lovingly restored balalaika is bound to tug at the heart strings.1.
